A UCSD Doctor's Perspective on Medcorder
By Medcorder Team in Medcorder.com
We often get asked whether Medcorder is built for patients or for doctors. Our answer is always the same: it’s for both. Patients leave with a record of the appointment that they can reference in the future if they want to recall or share details of what was said, and doctors gain the benefit of knowing their patients are more able and likely to follow important instructions regarding their own care.
Recently, Dr. Dan Gardner sent out an email to his subscribers recommending Medcorder. We were so moved that we wanted to share his unedited email with you, along with a video interview he did with our CEO & Founder, David Weekly.
Dr. Gardner’s Email
Have you ever left a doctor’s office and didn’t quite understand or couldn’t remember the diagnosis your doctor gave you? Maybe you forgot a treatment recommendation, what was said about a new medicine you were prescribed, or a possible side effect to watch for?
Throughout my career of working with patients managing acute and chronic conditions, I have observed how emotional distress and cognitive impairment interfere with patients’ ability to focus and understand critical medical discussions. When someone is being told about a cancer diagnosis, or when parents are managing a child’s chronic disability, it can be incredibly difficult to absorb everything the doctor is saying.
While many doctors provide written summaries, these often lack the important contextual details about how diagnoses were reached and why specific treatments were chosen over alternatives.
That’s why I want to tell you about Medcorder — a free and easy-to-use mobile phone app that patients can use to audio record, transcribe, and share their doctor visits.
